Makani Christensen, Angler aboard HOKU No. 3 takes home $20,000.00 for landing a 265.3 pound Blue Marlin, and wins the 2011 Lahaina Jackpot Fishing Tournament.
The 2011 Lahaina Jackpot Fishing Tournament was a huge success!
Taking home the First Prize of $20,000.00 in this year’s 35th annual Lahaina Jackpot Fishing Tournament was Makani Christensen, fishing aboard Captain Mike Sur'sHoku No. 3 with his catch of a 265.3 pound Pacific Blue Marlin.
In the Wahine Fishing Tournament, $5,700.00 was paid to Janis Walin's 246.1 pound Blue Marlin fishing aboard long time Tournament participant Pualele.
The very first Tag and Release cash prize of$1,000.00 was paid to Start Me Up Das It, skippered by Denny Putnum for Juanita Linal's tagged and released Blue Marlin.

Entry Fees: Jackpot entry fee is $800 per boat. The Wahine Entry fee is $150 per boat and $50 for each Wahine. All females on board will be considered anglers. Men on board may not participate except as crew and captain.

The minimum qualifying weight for boated BILLFISH is 100 pounds. The minimum qualifying weight for boated AHI, ONO, and MAHI is 25 pounds. No other species will qualify. The Wahine Jackpot prizes come from Entry Fees minus 15%. The Wahine Jackpot entry fee is $150 per boat and $50 per angler. The Wahine Jackpot will be paid to the biggest fish. If there are no qualifying fish caught the entry fees will be refunded minus 15%.
There will be non-cash prizes given away at the awards banquet.
Wahine Jackpot Tag & Release Purse: Funds for this category come directly from money donated by Whalers Realty, Inc., not Entry Fees. All tagged Billfish will receive points regardless of weight. Blue or Black Marlin = 100 points. Stripe Marlin or Spearfish = 75 points. Sailfish = 50 points. Only BILLFISH can be tagged. There will be three prizes awarded totaling $1,000.
~ The team with the largest number of Tag & Release points will be awarded $500.
~ The team with the second largest number of Tag & Release points will be awarded $300.
~ The team with the third largest number of Tag & Release points will be awarded $200.
~ In the event there is only one team with Tag & Release points, they will be awarded $1,000. ~ In the event there are two teams with Tag & Release points, the team with the largest number of points will be awarded 60% of the purse and the team with the second largest number of points will be awarded 40% of the purse. ~ If there is a tie for tag points, the tie will be split among those in the tie position with 60% going to the first team to arrive at the tie position, and 40% going to the team that arrived at the tie position second. The Lahaina Jackpot Fishing Tournament is the oldest money Tournament held in the State of Hawaii. Started in 1976, it has enjoyed continuous community support for 34 years.
