This year marks the 35th Anniversary of the Wahine and Lahaina Jackpot Fishing Tournament. It will be a two day event with the Wahine’s kicking off the tournament on Friday, October 28 and the Lahaina Jackpot Fishing Tournament following on Saturday October 29, 2011 at the Lahaina Harbor. This homegrown community event is a non-profit tradition sponsored by the Lahaina Yacht Club. The 2011 Wahine and the Lahaina Jackpot will be awarded to the largest qualifying fish caught in each tournament. There will be no second place prizes.
In addition this year, we will be strongly encouraging Jackpot’s fishermen and women to participate in the NOAA sponsored billfish “Tag and Release” program. A new “Tag & Release Purse” has been accumulated from sponsor donations and that will provide cash prizes to the teams who tag and release the most billfish.
This program provides a great opportunity for effective long-term management and conservation of the Pacific billfish populations. Working together, Hawaii’s fishermen can provide important information from the charter boat industry and sports fishing community that will help to insure the longevity of the Pacific billfish populations for generations to come and to protect the important role recreational fishing plays in the lifestyle and culture of Hawaii.
The Lahaina Jackpot Committee wishes the best of luck to all the tournament anglers. If you have ideas on how you can help Lahaina Jackpot we welcome your input. For more information please contact MaryAnn McNew, Lahaina Jackpot Tournament Director at 808-268-6422 or LahainaJackpot@gmail.com.

A fish may be tagged and then observed to determine if the fish is eligible to be weighed. Moneybags will confirm what fish have been boated by other teams and their estimated weight.

And speaking of MONEYBAGS - we are very appreciative of the PIONEER INN who has so generously provided our Radio Room over-looking the Lahaina Harbor and right on the scene for all the action. And with their Kaamaina Rates you can't get a better spot to stay in Lahaina. Open early for Breakfast. And there's no better place to keep an eye on the Scales while you wait for the day's catch to be brought in than at the Whaler's Bar, a Lahaina Classic for over 50 years.

If there is a tie for tag points, the tie will be split among those in the tie position with 60% going to the first team to arrive at the tie position, and 40% going to the team that arrived at the tie position second. The Official Tag Time will be the time confirmed by Moneybags.
If there are no Tag & Release Billfish, all of the Tag & Release Purse prize money will roll over to be used for the 2012 Tag & Release prizes.
Registered Anglers: Any participant who wishes to weigh a fish or turn in a tag card must be listed on the registration form as an angler. Substitute anglers are allowed if they have been confirmed by the Jackpot Committee prior to “Start Fishing” of that day.
Dock Time: All boats must secure with Moneybags by 6:00 PM or authorities will be notified of your absence. You must have a shore phone number on your entry forms in case of emergency.
Late Weigh INS: If you hooked up prior to the call of “Stop Fishing” at 4:00 PM and Moneybags has confirmed it, you may fight your fish until you catch it. If it appears that you will miss the dock time because you are still hooked up, Moneybags must be notified in order to make the necessary arrangements.
Catch Reports:Fish must be brought to the Lahaina Harbor Weigh Station. Each angler shall complete a catch report for fish boated or tagged and released. All information required from the angler must be placed on the catch report before the fish is turned over to the Judges. The boat shall exhibit lure, leader, rod and reel for inspection.
A team member must stay with their fish from boat to scale and that member or the Captain will be the only person to verify the weight of the fish on the scale with the Weigh Master. NO TRUCKED fish will be weighed.
Qualifying fish will be weighed ONE TIME only. The judges may investigate and act upon any incident. By participating in this tournament the anglers agree to abide by the Official Rules as stated.
Disposition of fish is 100% the responsibility of the teams. Fish must NOT be left at the dock, or they will be confiscated and the team will be responsible for the relocation expense.
Failure to adhere to these rules and requirements may result in your fish being disqualified
Photographic Evidence: The photos of tag & release fish will be used to resolve potential conflicts of formal protest. The photo must be taken with a TOURNAMENT ISSUED CAMERA with the tag shown clearly inserted into the billfish. In order to be eligible to qualify photos must be taken with the intent to verify (1) the species of the billfish and (2) that the tagging procedure was fully performed and (3) that the released fish is alive and capable of survival when released. Only Billfish can be tagged.
A photo proving that the tag and release procedure was fully performed may be difficult, especially on smaller boats. It is the responsibility of the judge(s) only, to decide if the photos provided fulfill the intent of this rule.
The best approach to getting the required photos is to take at least one photo from the bridge if possible with a view of the fish on the leader being tagged. Next, take at least one photo close up in order to show that the tag is inserted in the fish. It is recommended that you take a couple of shots from each approach.
Due to the nature of dealing with wild animals no procedure is fool proof and there is always a chance that regardless of the effort, the team may not capture the photo image needed by the judges and may be denied points based upon the lack of photographic quality and/or detail. By participating in this tournament, the teams accept this, and are responsible for providing the best possible photos to the judges. Safety of the angler should always be foremost important.
Tag & Release Photos: The judges shall be the only persons to view the photos. A team may ask to see the photos taken from their boat only. Should there be a problem with any team’s photos that would disqualify a tag and release on the grounds of insufficient photo evidence, proof of species or the tag and release procedure was not shown as fully performed it will be the responsibility of the judges to show the photos to the team whose catch is being disallowed only.
Disqualification: Grounds for disqualification include but are not limited to: cheating in any manner, filling fish with anything, faking a tag photo in any manner, disfiguring official cameras in any manner, using tag poles longer than 8 feet in length, and/or using non-conforming gear or falsifying hook-ups.
Official Results and Purse Pay Out: T & R Purse money shall not be distributed until tournament photos are processed and results verified. “Results,” printed or announced prior to photo verification and protest review are “Unofficial”.
Sportsmanship: All judging, awarding, and accounting of purses and prizes will be handled in a businesslike manner and in the spirit of good sportsmanship. No yelling or otherwise attempting to intimidate judges or officials shall be tolerated. The Jackpot Committee reserves the right to deny entry to anyone.
Protests: Any protest shall be made in writing; signed by the Captain and presented to the Jackpot Committee no later than 7:00 PM on the day of concern. No Exceptions. Entrants agree to submit to a polygraph if requested. The decision of the Jackpot Committee is final.
